Only 3,864 of these rare Packards were built between 1948-1950. The station sedan used both
a steel sub frame and steel passenger doors on which structural hardwood panels were mounted to create a Woodie station wagon. The rear gate was the only wooden door on the vehicle, and the cargo compartment was lined with wood affixed by steel strips to prevent scratching. The 1949 model was one of the last of the iconic Packard Woodies.

This beautiful Woodie has been well-maintained its entire life. It boasts an R9 overdrive transmission and comfortably seats six people while traveling at highway speeds. Powered by a straight-eight engine displacing 327 cubic inches, it now produces more power than the original 288 hp, thanks to a recent rebuild. With all that power, thankfully the brakes were rebuilt as well. In addition, the radiator was recently boiled out, and the gas tank was recoated.

It has had only one repaint approximately twenty years ago, and the chrome is excellent all around. All the wood is original and revarnished. It is showing moderate wear but is very solid except for the tailgate wood, which has been replaced. The door panels are equally nice. All the glass is original and clean except for the front vent windows, which are showing their age with minor delaminating.

On the inside, the tan interior is original and in beautiful condition. The sun visor was an option in 1949 and was installed as original equipment. The seats are covered in a blend of tan broadcloth and vinyl. The chrome-trimmed dash is painted to resemble wood grain, and all the standard instrumentation works well, including the radio, a speedometer and gauges for oil pressure, amps, temperature and fuel.
